BACKGROUND
Venessa A. Sifunjo is an Associate in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group and specialises in commercial litigation, arbitration and mediation, insolvency matters, data protection and privacy, and general commercial transactions.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a post-graduate diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She is also a Certified Professional Mediator and a Data Privacy Specialist.
EXPERIENCE
- Part of the Team representing and giving advisory to a leading food and beverage processing company in a complex commercial dispute regarding the supply, installation and commissioning of equipment with potential escalation to commercial arbitration proceedings.
- Part of the Team that successfully represented a leading architectural firm at the Court of Appeal in a debt recovery and enforcement claim valued at Kes 200 million.
- Part of the Team that successfully represented a major pension scheme in a high-stake pension dispute worth over Kes 14 billion before the Court of Appeal.
- Part of the Team that successfully represented a major pension scheme in a high-stake pension dispute worth over Kes 14 billion before the Court of Appeal.
- Part of the Team that successfully defended a Government Financial Regulatory Entity in a precedent-setting appeal before the Capital Markets Tribunal. The matter raised complex issues including the enforceability of the Code of Corporate Governance Practices for Issuers of Securities to the Public 2015.
- Part of the Team representing a leading Kenyan commercial bank in a matter where the Court of Appeal granted leave to appeal to the Supreme Court in a decision poised to set a significant precedent for the banking and financial sectors nationwide.
