Oraro & Company Advocates has, once again, been recognised as a “Top Tier” firm in the recently published 2019 Legal 500 rankings. The firm has been highly ranked in the areas of Dispute Resolution (Tier 1), Employment (Tier 1) and Banking, Finance and Capital Markets (Tier 2) reaffirming the firm’s position as a market leading African law firm. The rankings are conducted annually by Legal 500, a legal directory that has been analysing the capabilities of law firms across the world for 32 years.

The firm has maintained its position as Tier 1 in the dispute resolution practice area and is lauded for its frequent involvement in headline insolvency and restructuring cases, tax disputes and international arbitrations. Legal 500 in its ranking notes that our Senior Partner, George Oraro SC and Managing Partner, Chacha Odera are “market leaders” in Dispute Resolution and ranks them among the “Leading Individuals”. Walter Amoko (Partner) has also recognised as a well rounded litigator.

In Employment, the firm is well regarded for “an impressive mix of contentious and non-contentious work”. The directory commended the firm for its expertise in handling trade unions, major restructurings and class actions. Chacha Odera is noted as a Leading Lawyer in the area being praised for his “considerable experience in employment disputes.” In addition, Georgina Ogalo-Omondi is recognised as “highly specialised in employment”.

Notably, the firm moved up the ladder and was ranked Tier 2 in the Banking, Finance and Capital Markets practice area from Tier 3 in 2018. Legal 500 attributed this to the firm’s vast experience in advising on a range of corporate loans, structured finance, syndicated loans and real estate financings. The firm’s head of the Banking & Finance practice, Pamella Ager has been noted as the key partner in this field with George Oraro SC providing ‘further senior gravitas’.

Commenting on the rankings, Chacha Odera, our Managing Partner, stated that “We are pleased and humbled for the positive evaluations of our advocates and the services we provide both from our clients and peers. The legal landscape keeps evolving and to be recognised and ranked on this scale is exactly where we want to be as firm.
